Windows 10 is detected as Windows Vista in WSUS and more

Earlier today I created a Build and Capture task sequence for Windows 10 and as part of that process I chose all Windows 10 categories in my Software Update Point (as seen below) and started the synchronization and waited for it to finish.

When it was done I checked for the following Software Updates in Configuration Manager 2012 R2 SP1 – just to make sure that everything was in order:

  • Security Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3074681)
  • Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3074686)
  • Security Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3074680)
  • Security Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3074679)
  • Security Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3074674)
  • Security Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3074667)

To my surprise none of the above updates were present on my SUP (WSUS) and the only updates related to Windows 10 that I found, was the 111 language packs.

I then looked in the WSUS administration tool to check if the Windows 10 updates were present there but no. I also found that my Windows 10 machine was detected as Windows Vista.

The issue with Windows 10 being detected as Windows Vista has existed since the preview days but obviously hasn´t been fixed yet. It is pretty easy to correct using the procedure described here, but most certain unsupported. Even though other options exist such as downloading the few Windows 10 updates manually and applying them during the Build and Capture. I do find it a bit strange that WSUS isn´t ready for Windows 10 yet but I hope that it will be fixed soon.
